TODAY, HERE TOMORROW
Transforming Your Workforce from High-Turnover to High-Retention
Employee turnover is increasing and the cost of employee turnover is expensive. Employee retention is critical. A recent survey we conducted shows 60 percent of the workforce is considering leaving their current job for another as the economy improves.
Research shows at a minimum, it costs $4-$7K to replace an hourly worker and up to $40K to replace a midlevel, salaried employee--up to 2 times the cost of their salary. The costs associated with employee turnover includes lost customers, lost business, damaged morale, and then the hard costs of time spent in screening, verifying credentials, references, interviewing, hiring and training the new employee just to get back to where you started. This expenditure of time and money does nothing to give a manager or an organization a competitive edge.
However, despite these known costs and loss of productivity, 54 percent of businesses do nothing to focus on employee retention and create a high-retention culture or reduce high employee turnover. The revolving door keeps moving – employees leave, managers interview and hire more workers allowing competitors with low turnover to focus more on productivity..
Why You Need This Information:
Successful organizations realize employee retention and talent management is integral to sustaining their leadership and growth in the marketplace. Attracting, hiring, and retaining high-caliber employees in today's labor market challenges all organizations to manage talent at all levels. Two key themes permeate this book.
First, employee retention matters. A continual effort to replace departing workers—to keep the revolving door full, instead of stopping it altogether—is bleeding organizations dry. It’s expensive to constantly replace people that turnover. The cost of attracting, recruiting, hiring, training, and getting new people up to speed is tremendously more costly as well as tremendously more wasteful than most realize.
Second, productivity and profitability is directly tied to employee retention. Studies from the Gallup organization show that employees who have an above-average attitude toward their work will generate 38 percent higher customer satisfaction scores, 22 percent higher productivity, and 27 percent higher profits for their companies.
Here Today, Here Tomorrow shows why employee retention must become a strategic issue of highest priority. It introduces the eight elements of a high-retention workplace, provides a detailed, step-by-step retention strategy and shows how to implement it. It also offers case studies and hundreds of ideas from a wide range of industries and organizations that have turned the tide on turnover creating work environments generating more satisfied and more productive individuals contributing to a healthier bottom line.
